The Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics will host the fourth in the series of Electron-Electron Collider Workshops on December 7-9, 2001, building on the momentum generated by TESLA TDR Meeting in March of this year and the July Snowmass Summer Study on the Future of High-Energy Physics. In this spirit, our workshop will be coordinated as part of the Worldwide Study on a TeV Linear Collider.
Given that the electron-electron version is a straightforward capability of all existing e+e- collider designs, once a few decisions are made early on to facilitate the changeover from one Iin> state to another, this is a crucial time for reviewing the specific physics promise that can be realized in e-e- collisions, for discussing the technical demands needed for providing good luminosities for two equal- charge beams with a high degree of polarization, and for checking on the complementarity in accelerator structure, beam delivery, interaction region, diagnostic equipment, and detector.
As in the three prior Workshops of this series, we will also address the same questions to the additional capabilities of the Collider as a provider of e-gamma and gamma-gamma initial states, based on laser photon backscattering off the two highly polarized electron beams.
The Workshop will be held in the Natural Science Annex Building of the Santa Cruz Campus of the University of California. We expect to have it sponsored by the University, by the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and by the US Department of Energy. Our intention is to have it figure as a powerful contribution to a full coordination of all aspects of the different collider versions, irrespective of which specific project will ultimately be built as the facility for worldwide utilization.
Santa Cruz in December is almost certain to provide an ideal atmosphere for a fruitful exchange of ideas on a common goal in the moderate December climate and lovely surroundings of Monterey Bay. Attendance will be by invitation only - but we encourage requests for participation from all interested colleagues, and hope to accommodate all interested parties. Hotel/motel space is available at reasonable prices. We charge no registration fee and expect to be helpful with all practical concerns RE travel (to San Francisco or San Jose International Airports), rental car or limousine service for the short trip to Monterey Bay), lodging reservations, etc.
We expect to send Bulletin #2 in late September, but will be happy to answer all inquiries in the meantime. Also, a poster will soon be sent to all major laboratories and key departments as soon as we get them printed. We encourage all input for inclusion of relevant topics in our program. Please address all correspondence to the Conference Secretary,
