Minutes of the Tracker Technical Meeting

May 30, 2001

The meeting began with some discussion of PDR documentation.  Robert is working on writing the top-level document, which references all other documents.  He agreed to add references to all Hytec reports to the PDR document.  Tom reported that he updated the notes on testing from Bari, and Robert has included them.  (The complete set of PDR materials can be found at http://scipp.ucsc.edu/~johnson/glast/TKR_PDR/TKR_PDR_materials.html)

Ossie reported that 64 pieces of Double Disc Ground Tungsten have been ordered from Kulite, a CSM subsidiary, on a purchase requisition, with 10 weeks lead time. They are due mid July 01.  This was for “alloy.”  Ossie will confirm that Kulite can grind pure tungsten.

Further analysis of the CTE induced strain tests have shown a differential strain across the length of the ladder as well as some creep at the beginning of the test.  Additional cycles were run that show that it doesn’t appear to be creep because it repeats every cycle.  Strain is smaller on the center Si and higher outboard.  He will compile into a report.

Robert will add Ossie’s old reports to the PDR list.

Luca reported nothing from Pisa on the mechanical side.  They are waiting for detectors from HPK.  For database development, he is still working on the web interface.  There are some instabilities in the driver that handles connections between the server and database.  He hopes that it will be better when he works with a better server.  He needs to implement automatic reading of data from other institutions.  He will prepared some documentation.  He will try to get something ready for the PDR.

Hartmut reported Ohsugi sent measurements on the first 179 HPK detectors, all at the expected leakage current.  The depletion voltage is less than 80V.

Erik reported that they are working on the PDR document.  He expects to get out a rough draft on Thursday, with a clean copy on Monday.  He got 2 out 3 quotes back on sidewall material, from PCI and COI.  He is still waiting on YLA.  The PCI number improved from the previous estimate.  It is now $216k for 80 panels, not including aluminum foil.  COI estimated $337,000 for 80 panels, plus an additional $264 per panel to add aluminum.  Erik will talk to PCI to make sure nothing was left out of the quote and will also ask them to quote on aluminum.  Erik is waiting for a quote on assembly fixture machining.  The closeout walls should have been machined yesterday (Erik will check today).  He is sending the remaining Allcomp material back for reimpregnation.

Action Items:

  1. Robert: include Hytec references in the PDR material.
  2. Ossie: check whether Kulite can grind pure tungsten.
  3. Robert: add Ossie’s old reports to the PDR document list.
  4. Luca: prepare something on databases for the PDR.
  5. Erik: recheck the PCI sidewall quote and get quote on laminating aluminum foil.
