Mac OS/Windows Install the latest version of QuickTime from Apple Computer. There is an very easy installer which you can download from the web. QuickTime is free and fast. Windows can view the movies using Microsoft plug-ins, but QuickTime is preferred. If you download QuickTime 4.0 get at least the Internet edition (minimal does not work). If you encounter a "Running out of Memory " warning on the Mac and are running pre OS X, restart Netscape with more memory (12MBytes should work, select the Nescape icon in the Finder, Get Info, and adjust the Preferred Memory amount) |

SGI You should be able to view the movies already if you are running Netscape 4.0 or later. If you have trouble viewing the movies look under Preferences (Navigator:Applications) in Netscape and set "QuickTime Video" mime type to be handled by the MoviePlayer plug-in. MoviePlayer works well but is a little slow, you can also download the movies and view them with XAnim 2.8 or later, but XAnim is buggy and does not work well with Netscape. If you would like to use XAnim 2.8 follow the instructions below. 02 workstations do not have the computational horsepower needed to smoothly play movies of this size, but you can get the basic idea. |

Linux and Sun Now for real setup fun. There are several ways to view the movies in these web pages, but there are major problems and bugs, at least with the free versions. You can either cobble together a system that views all the web pages, but has access to movie controls only through a bug in Plugger 3.0, or you can download each movie and view them separately with animation controls but miss the guided tours. There is a new comercial solution for Linux, where they use a version of Wine to allow the use of Windows plugins. The star and selling point of the ~$30 solution is the use of the QuickTime pluggins. The reviews of this have been very positive, but I have not tried this solution. The free solutions are listed below and work, but are buggy.
This setup will play the movie immediately upon loading (bug) and has no control over the animation (Plugger 3.0 bug). However, if you reload the page in Netscape 4.61, the animation will appear in a separate floating window (another bug). Typing "z" will bring up a control window that will allow control of the animation, including the ability to read the instructions.
