Regular SCIPP Outreach Activities
Balloon Fest 2015: Saturday May 16
Every year SCIPP Outreach and Endeavour Academy collaborate on a launch of scientific balloons.
Teams of high school and middle school students supervised by teachers, professors and undergrad students from UCSC
will be launching balloons and gathering scientific data. Please visit: http://championship.endeavours.org/ for more information!
Teacher's Workshop: *No Workshop for 2015
For the last few years we have held one-week summer workshops at UCSC to work with high school teachers on analysis
and understanding of scientific data with special emphasis on data taken by cosmic ray detectors provided by QuarkNet.
The program is devoted to cosmic ray detection and measurement of the muon lifetime. We try to combine the teachers workshop with a 4 week long H.S. student internship program, also funded by QuarkNet.
2015 Dates: Unfortunately, SCIPP will not be having a summer program this year. Please check back next year.
For 4 weeks during the Summer of 2014, HS Students worked with a HS Teacher Mentor, and UC Professors and students, on analysis and understanding of scientific data with special emphasis on data taken by cosmic ray detectors provided by QuarkNet. The program is devoted to cosmic ray detection and measurement of the muon lifetime.
News and Events
SCIPP is hosting a QuarkNet masterclass this year on Saturday, March 16th, 2015. The LHC Masterclass is a project that allows interested high school students to spend one day learning about particle physics and analyzing data from an LHC experiment. These masterclasses are held at locations throughout the world and connected via videoconferencing for presentation of results.
