Balloon Fest 2013: Saturday April 20
Every year SCIPP Outreach and Endeavour Academy collaborate on a launch of scientific balloons.
Teams of high school and middle school students supervised by teachers, professors and undergrad students from UCSC
will be launching balloons and gathering scientific data.
For the last few years we have held one-week summer workshops at UCSC to work with high school teachers on analysis
and understanding of scientific data with special emphasis on data taken by cosmic ray detectors provided by QuarkNet.
The program is devoted to cosmic ray detection and measurement of the muon lifetime. We try to combine the teachers workshop with a 4 week long H.S. student internship program, also funded by QuarkNet.
2013 Dates: June 17 - July 26
For 6 weeks during the Summer, HS Students work with a HS Teacher Mentor & UC Professors and students on analysis and understanding of scientific data with special emphasis on data taken by cosmic ray detectors provided by QuarkNet.
The program is devoted to cosmic ray detection and measurement of the muon lifetime. We try to combine the 6 week long H.S. student internship program with our Teacher's Workshop, also funded by QuarkNet.
Our programs are funded by the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation through QuarkNet, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
via the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope(Fermi).
