Item:   Dell Centrino Laptop computer  $1100 (aprox.)    DAQ processing board ($400 approx.)


Puropose:  Our project is the development and building of cosmic ray scintillator detectors to be used 
in the physics classroom.  The objective is to aid in teaching aspects of particle physics and its 
relation to astronomy.  Issues in data collection, data processing and interpretation will be 
emphasized with students from this.   COSMOS has already provided one of the DAQ cards for use in 
with the  COSMOS students this summer.  This along with electronics and special scintillation materials 
we have obtained from other institutions (Lawerence Berkeley National Lab, Stanford Linear Accelerator
Center) have given us enough for one complete cosmic ray lab set up and most of a second.  Our request 
for a laptop computer and data aquisition board is to complete a second lab set up for use at both our 
schools and their science departments.
