Research Interests

Schalk works in experimental particle physics and accelerator physics. His interest is both on the computational issues associated with data analysis and the search for new particles along with the study of heavy quark decay. He has been the co-spokesperson for a major charm quark experiment, active in the study of parity violation in the decay of the heavy photon, and currently working on an experiment looking for the basis of the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the Universe. Over the last 30 years, Schalk has been very active in all aspects of the computing issues (the "bleeding edge") in high energy physics. He has been co-chair of the annual Computing in High Energy Physics conference, active on major computing review committees, head of the SLC control software group and computing coordinator for the BaBar experiment at PEP II.

Collaboration Involvement: SLD, BaBar
