The funding provided by ATLAS at CERN and the National Science Foundation (NSF) made it possible for us, the teachers, to collaborate with the students of the REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) Summer Program at SCIPP. This allowed the opportunity for us to take part in the weekly lectures and presentations with the undergraduates, in addition to holding 'teacher forums' where we emphasized classroom needs, outreach, and further ideas about the transfer of science into the primary and secondary educational institutions.
Our mentor, Hartmut Sadrozinski, put a lot of time and effort into making this experience worthwhile. As well, Tim Nissen worked extremely hard with Mia; Teela Pulliam and REU student Brian Thomas were great models for Deirdre; and David Dorfan challenged Nancy.
