Introduction To FPGAs Workshop

Hands-On Portion

The first part of the hands-on section involves setting up the board and downloading a simple counter to it. There are 2 main files you need to download. The first is the document giving you step by step instructions on how to load up the Xilinx software and download the program onto the board. The second file will depend on the version of the Xilinx software you're running.

First and foremost, you want the instructions [PDF]

If you have Xilinx version 6:
- Download this file: basic_counter_ise6.zip
- Unzip it to a directory with no spaces
If you have Xilinx version 7 or higher:
- Download this file: basic_counter.zip
- Unzip it to any directory

Play around with the basic counter and try making it count twice as fast. Another piece of code you can play with is slightly more complicated, introducing some new code to convert binary to decimal.

- Download this file: fancy_counter_ise6.zip
- Unzip it to a directory with no spaces
If you have Xilinx version 7 or higher:
- Download this file: fancy_counter.zip
- Unzip it to any directory
