Creating and Editing Columns

You can create a new column that is manually entered or based on calculations. The new column can calculate important results from other data in Graphical Analysis. For example, if you have current and voltage data, you can create a new column to calculate current times voltage, or power.

Creating a new column

1. Select New Manual Column or New Calculated Column from the Data menu, or click the corresponding buttons in the Data Browser.

2. Name the new column by editing the text in Name and Short Name text boxes.

4. Enter units in the Unit box. Choose a symbol, if needed, from the pull-down menu (Windows only. On Mac, use the Option key corresponding keystrokes for symbols).

5. If you are creating a new calculated column, enter your formula in the Equation text box. The definition can contain numbers, calculator functions (sin, sqrt, etc.), other columns, or functions such as smoothAve or derivative. You can either type the formula or select item(s) from the list of functions below to paste them in the definition box. Access the names of the other columns by scrolling down and choosing from the Variables (columns) menu. Access the additional constants by scrolling down and choosing from the Constants menu.

You can generate numbers for the manual column by checking the box next to Generate Column.

6. You can customize the column colors, assign point protectors, etc. from the Options tab, and assign the new column to a data set from the Data Sets tab.

7. Click the OK button when the information is complete.
